As long as you dive deep enough, you have the chance to find this precious crafting resource in shale outcroppings. You can also find diamonds in other places. Be careful of bonesharks, mesmers, and a creeping leviathan in these areas. More dangerous areas surrounding the Mountain Island, including the Underwater Islands, the Mushroom Forest, and the Blood Kelp Zone are also worth exploring. The most problematic enemy in this area is the warper, which will warp you away from shale if you're not careful. The caves beneath the mountain also have shale that might contain diamonds. You can also find outcroppings underwater, attached to the sides of the mountain. You can find some shale on the edges of the beach near the alien compound on the far side of the island. Copper can easily be found in Limestone Outcroppings around your Drop Pod and most seafloor areas. The Compass recipe requires Copper Wire and a Wiring Kit. The Compass appears on the same icon as your depth meter at the top of your screen. It's highly recommended you build a Compass after this point to help navigate to future bases, which this Walkthrough will help you find using cardinal directions.
